This will be a big weekend for sports tourism with Gadsden hosting a Lady Bass Angler Association fishing tournament and a 95-team basketball tournament.

Parks and Recreation Director Kerry Payne said most hotels in the city are booked because of the tournaments.

About 25 boats will be participating in the LBAA two-day tournament. Payne said ?blast off? will be at safe light this morning and Saturday, with weigh in at 3 p.m. each day at Coosa Landing.

Anglers participating will include Kim Bain-Moore, 2012 Angler of the Year; Lady Bass Angler Association Classic winner Cherry Bowden; and Pam Martin-Wells.

Payne said the anglers will be available for autographs after the weigh-ins.

The state basketball tournament for city parks and recreation department boys? and girls? teams will begin this evening, with play continuing on Saturday and the finals set for Sunday afternoon.

Games will be played at six locations ? Gadsden City High School, Carver Community Center, Thompson Community Center, Etowah High School, Mitchell Community Center and the Gadsden Coliseum.

Admission is $5 per day.

Gadsden did not host the tournament last year, Payne said, but had hosted it the three previous years.

The tournament includes boys? and girls? 8-, 10- and 12-and-under teams, and boys? 14- and 18-and-under teams.

Five teams are from the Gadsden area, according to Payne, with the remainder from out of town.
