TROY, Michigan ? White remains the top automotive color in the world, according to a new survey released on Wednesday by PPG Industries.
Silver is the second most popular color, said the auto supplier, followed by black, gray, red, natural, blue, green and other colors.
PPG forecasts that the overall use of color is on the rise and rolled out its palette for the 2015-'16 model years. The futuristic colors include Al Fresco, a silver metallic with a "fresh green tint" and Victoria Grey, a "classic gray with an iridescent highlight of gold metal." Other colors that may appear on cars in the near future include Opulence, a "refined red pearl with intense jewel tone" and Elixir, a metallic mixture of silver and magenta.
Consumers should also keep an eye out for sparkly yellow exterior paint treatments, as well as graphite gray with a violet blue tone.
"The palette being developed for the automotive segment continues to be influenced by culture, nature, fashion, interior design, color popularity and new pigment technology," said Jane E. Harrington, PPG manager of color styling, in a statement.
Edmunds says: Auto color stylists continue to push edgy colors, but it appears that consumers feel most comfortable with neutral tones.
