Fire destroyed a home along Pete's Highway near Southside Junior High in Denham Springs, and thanks to an unknown good Samaritan, a family is alive to talk about it.
A woman lived inside the home with her two young daughters. A man driving by saw a small amount of smoke and kept going. Neighbors say he eventually turned around and then saw the flames engulfing the house.
The fire started Tuesday morning a little after 10 a.m. on Hwy 16 Just south of I-12. Highway16 (Pete's Hwy) at Forest Delatte Rd was closed for a short time because of the fire.
Firefighter say the fire spread quickly from the carport of the home and eventually consumed nearly everything inside.
The family was able to escape because of the witness who returned to the home.
The unidentified man banged on the front door and told the family to get out of the house.
"We don't know who he is," said the home's owner Becky Brown.
"He said he had to leave and go to the doctor. If he sees this, I'd like to talk to him! If it wasn't for him I don't think they'd be here."
Brown is referring to her young granddaughters who lived at the home.
The family had insurance on the home.
There is no word on what caused the fire.
